At The Alta
Coolest Places To Stay Hot Tub Husky Safari Ice Igloo

The Igloo Hotel at Sorrisniva is constructed in the most amazing surroundings.  It's located next to a frozen river bed, surrounded by beautiful snow covered forests and at the foot of a beautiful, imposing mountain.

The town of Alta, whilst being Northern Norway’s largest town, still only has 20,000 residents. It is set in a spectacular location right on the edge of a fjord. The world’s first Northern Lights observatory was built just to the west of Alta and was in operation between 1899 and 1927. Alta was built to withstand the elements but recent developments including a new shopping centre and swimming pool complex and rejuvenation of the Alta museum makes it a fascinating place to visit.

The Ice Chapel is so beautiful it regularly draws tourists to view it when it is not in use. With its beautiful ice sculptures and light displays it truly is a stunning setting for your big day. The staff there are very friendly and willing to help meet your every requirement. The Ice Chapel also has very special acoustics if you wanted to incorporate any music into your ceremony. The restaurant Laksestua is located just next to the Ice Hotel and its beautiful food and roaring log fire is a ideal place to have your wedding meal.

The Ceremony
If you are searching for a magical fairytale location in which tie the knot, then look no further than the ice chapel.

Transport to and from the Ceremony

The Igloo Hotel is fully equipped to make the final preparations for the ceremony in the warm facilities if you wish. Alternatively you can arrive ready for the ceremony. Either way from here you can then go on a magical horse pulled sleigh through the snowy forests and arrive at the Ice Chapel for the ceremony.

The Celebration
When the ceremony is over, it is time to celebrate and there are two restaurants on site to allow you to do so, both offering a fantastic standard of delicious food and a very welcome roaring log fire.

Wedding Night
The Igloo Hotel has a purpose built bridal suite to finish your unique wedding day. This suite is always designed to be extra special to ensure the perfect ending to your perfect day.

Rica Hotel Alta
The Rica hotel is a beautiful modern option. It has two restaurants a bar / lounge area with a wonderful fireplace and a sauna. Next door to the hotel a new leisure complex is being developed with a state of the art swimming pool along with two children’s pools, a gym and a café. The hotel has also negotiated for underground access meaning that you can visit this new facility without having to brave the cold air!

Snowmobile Safaris
Once you have experienced travelling through snowy forests and over frozen lakes on a snowmobile, you will understand why it is such a popular activity.

Husky Safaris
Step back in time and experience driving a sled where the huskies pull you through the snow – it is a truly magical feeling made more special by the unspoilt landscape for you to explore.

Cross Country Skiing
It really is worth donning these unusual skis and getting out on the cross country tracks where you cover greater distances and enjoy the fresh outdoor air.

Snowshoes
Yes we know they look like tennis rackets but they do exactly what they say on the tin – they allow you to walk over very deep snow so you can explore parts of the forest that you would never be able to walk over in ordinary shoes. They are also great fun for everyone whatever their age and ability.

Northern Lights Expedition
You will be met by your guide in the evening who will give you a fascinating short scientific explanation of how the Northern Lights occur and a detailed weather forecast of the surrounding area. You will then decide on a route for the evening and your guide will drive you off on your hunt for the Northern Lights. You will be provided with a snack to keep your energy levels up as long as the hunt lasts.

Sami Culture
This is a fascinating opportunity to learn more about the Sami people and how they survived for hundreds of years in such extreme temperatures by just living off reindeer. You will be given a fantastic reindeer stew around a campfire in the Lavvu and get chance to speak to the fascinating Sami’s who still live a remarkably similar lifestyle to many years ago.

Ice Fishing
Sometimes it can be a challenge, it is always relaxing but most of all it is an opportunity to take part in a local past time.

in our opinion...

The Igloo Hotel and accompanying restaurant facilities are absolutely beautiful. The Igloo Hotel is lit by fibreoptics and candles making the overall effect as the light shines on the ice truly magical. Like something straight out of a fairytale.

You must trip a dip in the hot tub, watching for the Northern Lights, followed by a gourmet three course meal of specialities made from local ingredients. Without a doubt the best meal I have ever had in my life!
