Snow Chapel & Igloo's
Coolest Places To Stay Hot Tub Ice Igloo Log Cabin & Winter Cottages Reindeer Safari Wooden Chapel

Kakslauttanen Hotel & Igloo Village is located in the Saariselka fell amidst beautiful Finnish Lapland scenery. It is in the vicinity of Urho Kekkonen National Park along the road leading to Nordkap and the Arctic Ocean.

The village is a family run business providing a full range of accommodation choices which is truly unique to Kakslauttanen.

The ceremony
There are two very different venues you can choose from when getting married at Kakslauttanen. Most people choose to get married at the Ice Chapel which is re-built every year with a completely new design. Temperatures in the Ice Chapel can be between -2 and -5 Celsius, so remember to dress up appropriately.

The traditional wooden chapel is located amongst the trees and provides a rustic, intimate and cosy atmosphere.

Transport to and from the ceremony
The bride and groom can both arrive and leave either the snow or wooden chapel in reindeer pulled sleigh.

The celebration
Reception drinks can be held at the glass teepee which can be decorated to your own tastes. A buffet style meal or set menu can be arranged at the hotel where there are four different rooms to choose from.

For something a little more different reception drinks can be held in the ice bar and food served in the ice restaurant. Fireworks can also be arranged on request.

Wedding night
For your wedding night we would not recommend a snow or glass igloo. Both provide a truly unique experience however we believe a log cabin, honeymoon chamber or queen suite would be best suited for a wedding night (our favourite is the queen suite).

There is also the option to stay at the newly built hotel Geilas located in Saariselka only a 10 minute drive from Kakslauttenan. The rooms are very modern and come with their own sauna.

Log Cabins and Queen Suite Log Cabin
The standard log cabins are spacious with a cosy feel. They each have a log fire and private sauna. The queen suite log cabins are luxuriously furnished with their own private sauna and heated jacuzzi on the terrace.

Honeymoon Suite
The Honeymoon Turf Chamber has been built in the customary way using stripped birch covered with a half-metre layer of turf. It includes a bedroom with fireplace and a Las Vegas-style bathroom with sparkling stars in the ceiling. The North Star is located right over the bathtub. There's also a Finnish sauna, of course. The decoration is stylish Finnish and Italian work. The bathroom bears the mark of Versace, while the bedroom is by Fagun of Finland. The Honeymoon Chamber provides a very warm and cosy atmosphere…..perfect for a wedding night.

Snow Igloo
Imagine yourself sleeping in an Igloo made of Snow. It is totally quiet and the lights inside the ice illuminate the Igloo. The temperature inside Snow Igloo stays always between -3c and -6c so that you will never feel too cold. That's a promise! The snow Igloos are for 1-5 people.

After the night in an Igloo it is time for a Sauna. The saunas and showers next to the Igloo Village are open every morning. From the sauna it is also possible to take a dip in the hole in the ice. What a way to start your day.

Glass Igloo
The attraction of the glass igloo’s is that it allows you to marvel at the amazing northern lights and millions of stars in the sky. The experience is also unforgettable when there is a snowstorm. Kakslauttanen is a very good place for seeing the Northern Lights.

The Glass Igloos have been built from a very special thermo glass. Because of that, the temperature inside the Igloo stays at a normal room temperature. It also prevents the glass frosting over, hence keeping the view clear even when the temperature drops under -30 C. The Igloos are fitted with toilets and there is also a sauna and ice hole nearby.

in our opinion...

On my visit to Kakslauttanen I spent one night in a log cabin and another in a glass tepee. The log cabins were rustic and cosy and were very comfortable with their own sauna. However, spending my second night in a glass tepee was a truly unique and exhilarating experience, I unfortunately did not get to witness the northern lights but it really is a perfect way to enhance your chances.

All of the cabins, saunas, snow restaurant, chapel, bar and warm restaurant are within a comfortable walking distance of each other. Kakslauttanen is also only a 10 minute drive from Saariselka ski slopes which is great for a days skiing.
